Never heard of the Anchoress before hearing a gig at the Union Chapel on the day this launched. I bought the tickets entirely on a whim, thinking it might be a nice birthday present for my sister at one of our favourite venues. We both loved the gig - a discovery for us both and so nice when you discover new music by surprise. The songs played from this album were all beguiling interpretations of classics, which we loved, and the rest of the gig was great too. CAD has two new fans.

Favorite track: Bizarre Love Triangle.
Limited edition vinyl version of the 'Versions' album. Pressed on Eco-Mix vinyl. Each record will be unique. Strictly limited to 1000 copies.
The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies) releases her album of modern reworkings, ‘Versions’ this autumn via the recently relaunched Drowned in Sound label, compiling 10 re-imaginings of songs by the likes of Depeche Mode, The Cure, Nirvana, Nico and Halsey, all produced and mixed by Davies.
As Davies explains, “each record pressed will be a completely unique combination, reworked from leftover wax pellets which feels very apt for the concept of the album, as well as being a more eco-friendly method of production. I love the idea that, like the collection of songs being pieces of other people’s imaginations, this record is quite literally made up of unused parts of other records.”
Strictly limited to 1000 copies.
Please note that this is a pre-order. Vinyl will ship by 6th October 2023.

Welsh multi-instrumentalist and producer Catherine Anne Davies is The Anchoress.
Her albums,
‘Confessions of A Romance Novelist’ and ‘ The Art of Losing’ were released on Kscope to widespread critical acclaim and named amongst The Sunday Times and Guardian critics’ Albums of the Year, HMV’s Welsh Album of the Year, Best Newcomer at the PROG awards, and two nominations for the Welsh Music Prize....more
I always love Nicky Wire's lyrics - their wisdom, wit, sadness, and rebellion. Wire ages almost painfully gracefully. This particular song feels like it was written for me (it probably wasn't) because of some letters and art I sent or tried to send Wire a long time ago when I was in a mental health crisis. In any case, it seems to be about someone who had the stupid and embarrassing experience of loving a famous stranger they know only from their art. richeychthonic
The renditions of these songs are so beautiful and raw. While I love the originals, these stripped down versions show so much feeling from Laura and it just pierces your soul. Love love love. Thanks! supashoppa

Cermony's Ross John Farrar experiments with synths, bass, & percussion to make music similar to that from the '80s homemade tape scene. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 30, 2023
Well, does it live up to the hype? It's okay, not as good as 'Loops' or the 'Fenella' stuff; i doubt i'll be listening to it in full very often.
Her mojo is waneing in my 'umble opinion. vykr
